PNK Box

UX/UI | Design Research | Branding

With the current healthcare restrictions enacted, there are little-to-no services that cater to the LGBTQ+ community and women regarding accessible reproductive services in Texas. To solve the lack of reproductive care queer and low-income individuals face, this non-profit was created. PNK Box is a pop-up gynecological service that travels to six cities throughout Texas taking over vacant lots to provide free services such as pap smears, birth control, and sexual health.

Users can access information on all of the healthcare providers at PNK Box. Scheduling a doctor’s visit (especially if it’s sex-health-related) can be intimidating when just basing it off a name and what insurance they accept.

This feature allows patients to view headshots, a short bio, and even the preferred pronouns of PNK Box providers so that users can set up an appointment more comfortably.

Meet the Providers

Since PNK Box is a traveling healthcare service, patients must know the current pop-up location and length of stay. On the PNK Box site's homepage, users have access to an interactive map that shows the travel route along with a timeline of where the pop-up is active and where it will be traveling next.

This feature ensures that users will constantly have access to the whereabouts of PNK Box and will know when to plan for their next visit.

Find Us

Users can access their appointment history, medical history, and lab results on the profile page.

This feature allows patients to keep track of their sex health needs and access nearly all the information they need without having to call a provider.

Personal Information

Once arriving at the pop-up location, users can use the kiosk to check in or make an appointment.

This feature allows patients to check in quickly without having to talk to a receptionist, making it accessible to lower-income individuals who might not have access to the internet.

Kiosk

The social media aspect allows PNK Box to reach as many users as possible and is also a sex-education resource.

Sex health + education is often avoided due to the taboo connotation and the awkwardness that comes with it. PNK Box’s goal is to use social media as a space where sex isn’t an embarrassing topic but an open conversation.

Social Media

It is crucial to study the target audience, understand how they think and feel, and to design an experience that will ultimately cater to their specific needs. I was challenged with curating a sex-positive gynecology service that didn’t produce feelings of gender dysphoria for people that do not identify as a woman.

After creating PNK Box, I discovered my love of UX/UI and designing for underserved and under-represented groups.

Takeaways

With more time, I would have loved to include more accessibility features. The target users are from central/ south Texas so, adding a language toggle would have been preferred.
